MATTHEW JASPER

#teamfireglass
Matthew is the HR Advisor for recruitment at Head Office. He is responsible for all recruitment, training and development needs for across the whole of the business.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY AT FIRE GLASS LIKE FOR YOU?

Busy! I will go through all of the CV’s that have come in for roles we have open. Sifting through to find relevant people, then trying to call them, go over the details and assess whether they are right for the role, before booking them in for an interview. I also deal with any offers going out and the associated paperwork, plus all of the induction paperwork. On top of that I have multiple projects on the go. These include creating training plans, process notes and new proposals.

I also spend two days a week on the road visiting other branches.

On top of this, a good chunk of a Friday is taken up by writing my report.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

The people and work ethic around the company. I see a lot of the company through my site visits, and everyone is friendly, passionate and hard-working.

WHAT PARTS OF YOUR JOB DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING?

Finding enough hours in the day!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS SEEKING THE SAME LINE OF WORK?

Work ethic is a must, though this is a given for any role if you want to succeed.

Specifically for recruitment, you need to be able to even yourself out. Recruitment is full of big highs and lots of low lows. It’s the inherent problem with recruitment that people can be unpredictable, so don’t get too down when someone pulls out of a job for example, but also don’t get too excited about placing someone, because anything can happen.

You also need to find a system to keep you organised. In my personal life I go with the flow and am generally quite unorganised, but I found a system in my work life that allows me to keep on top of everything that is going on. This is vital, especially when you are busy.

WORK GOALS?

To improve the recruitment experience for the company and candidates.

To improve the level of training we offer as a company, and help our brilliant staff grow and reach their potential.

WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I watch Wrexham home and away. Enjoy visiting new countries and places, and spending time with my wife and family.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BAND/ALBUM?

The Lost Boys - Shakka

FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT AND WHAT?

Meze Greek restaurant – Ellesmere. My parents live in Ellesmere so whenever we celebrate anything we always go here. Chicken Metaxa with chips every time – It’s incredible. It was also voted the best Greek restaurant in the UK in 2023, which is some going for a tiny village like Ellesmere.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL MOTTO?

Much to my wife’s annoyance. Work, Football, Family.!
