Jack is Production Manager at Fire Glass Midlands. He is responsible for all manufacturing-related activities in the factory, including planning, coordinating and controlling the production process to make sure products are delivered on time and within budget.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY AT FIRE GLASS LIKE FOR YOU?
At Fire Glass Midland, we are an extremely fast-paced branch. My day starts typically by a daily walkaround on the production shop floor, ensuring that all staff are aware of their daily targets and ensure we start the day safely.
Throughout the day, regular checks for health and safety are completed and progress reviews for production to ensure we are on target. I am responsible for 35 members of the production team, so I need to ensure they are all tended to at all times.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I enjoy working as part of a team. There are a lot of moving parts in production and the success of our branch is down to the whole team. I enjoy facing challenges and succeeding them as a team.
WHAT PARTS OF YOUR JOB DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING?
We are a very busy and fast moving branch which sometimes means we exceed our capacity limits. I enjoy assessing and working out the best possible plan to ensure we get the job done on time and within budget.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS SEEKING THE SAME LINE OF WORK?
Work hard and be open-minded and be open to change.
WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
In my spare time I love to spend time with my young son and my Wife. I am a football fanatic and enjoy going to watch my team West Bromwich Albion when i get the opportunity to.
