Fire Glass UK decided to theme our online advent calendar this year around giving back; to our local communities and our yearly chosen charity – MIND. It’s been an unprecedented year and there are much less fortunate who could use a little help.
We decided to create donation stations at all of our branches to enable us to receive donations for local food banks. Enabling anyone to drop off non-perishable foods and toiletries, even if they can’t afford to stretch to the full £5 any donation is welcome.
As a company we decided to set a challenge for our employees – The Fire glass £5 challenge. The mission is to see what can be brought to feed a family for £5. Could you buy a day’s worth of food? Could you supply a substantial meal? We look forward to seeing and hearing about your challenge.
Zoe Sibley, Marketing Manager describes her £5 challenge. “I headed to my local Sainsbury’s (other supermarkets available) armed with my £5. My thought process was to try and feed a family for the whole day, which proved quite difficult. I headed for the cereal aisle and found a box of own-brand corn flakes for £1. I brought two cartons of UHT milk and I found a block of milk chocolate for 40p. My thought process for this was that cornflake cakes could be made as a treat. I brought two cans of chicken curry and a bag of white rice because everyone loves curry. A tin of peaches for fruit intake, a tin of rice pudding, and a bottle of juice.
Looking back, maybe I should have brought a can of soup instead of the can of rice pudding, so all meals were covered. My challenge totalled £5.11 a teeny bit over but I would rather my challenge went over rather than under”.
Donations from our Head Office and Midlands branch were delivered by our very own Santa Barry on Friday 11th December – to coincide with ‘Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. We used this day as our Fun Friday whilst also collecting £2 from each of our team who choose to wear their best Christmas Jumpers to work for this cause too.
At Fire Glass we believe giving is very important and whilst this year has not allowed us to get out and visit our Customers, we thought putting the extra energy into our charity work on their behalf.
