WHAT ARE HERITAGE UNITS?

Heritage Units are thin Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) especially designed for use where standard sized double-glazing would not be suitable in terms of appearance or fit. A Heritage Unit can be fitted within an existing single-pane glazing rebate, replacing the single-pane of glass, without having to change the window frame.

THE BENEFITS OF HERITAGE UNITS

Heritage Units are available in different thicknesses and have a low sight line. They can be glazed into most standard sized existing single-pane rebates / window frames. As an insulated sealed unit, a Heritage Unit will improve insulation (against both heat and noise) when compared to a single pane of glass. Heritage Units are not generally as energy efficient as a standard sized double-glazed unit but energy efficiency can be improved when used with other specialist Energy Efficient Glass.

Building Regulations

Heritage Units comply with Building Regulations in terms of the minimum U-Value requirements when installing windows, doors and roof glazing; depending on the type of build / project.

U-VALUE

As with other IGUs, Heritage Units have a U-Value by way of energy rating; the lower the U-Value the less heat passes through the unit and the better the unit is as an insulator.

TYPICAL HERITAGE UNITS USAGE

Heritage Units are generally used in conservation areas (areas of special architectural or historic interest) where any work carried out must preserve or enhance the character of the area meaning standard double-glazing would not be suitable. Subject to any planning permission (particularly with listed buildings) they can be used in period properties and can even be fitted within sash windows; replacing the single pane of glass.
